And the final winner of our Think Pink—Vado for the Cure Contest winner is…

Congratulations AJ! Thank you so much for participating and sharing your mother’s story with us. AJ wrote,
“I have a vado hd. Love it. Why do people associate flip with pocket cams? The vado is better. Any way, my mother had breast cancer and subsiquent mastectomy. A few months later she was diagnosed with brain cancer. She had surgery 3 months ago and finally went home last week. She is on the road to recovery. I use my vado to record the kids and send her dvd’s…it makes her smile. I think everyone should get a vado and make…smiles. Cheers.”
We wish the best for your mother while she is on her way to recovery. It is wonderful to know that she is so strong and continuing to fight through this. Filming the kids with your new Pink Vado will definitely be a way to make your mother smile and I’m sure she’ll enjoy your homemade movies. AJ, to claim your prize, please email us at socialmedia@creativelabs.com And yes, we do agree. Everyone does need to get a Vado to create smiles. =)
Sadly, we have finally come to the last week of our Think Pink—Vado for the Cure Contest. We are so grateful for everyone’s participation and the stories they have shared about their experiences with breast cancer throughout the month of October. Knowing that there are so many people united together to find a cure for this horrible disease brings hope that one day we will be able to rid the world of breast cancer. Thank you again to everyone who participated in our contest.

Check out the incredible Expert Panel of judges!
We’re back to introduce you to an another two industry greats who will be part of our Expert Panel of Judges for the Vado Film Contest. In case you missed the last two posts, we got a look at four fantastic fellas who are also on our expert panel. This film contest is open to participating schools (and there are quite a few already participating). Students receive Vado HD cameras in order to make a short film. Once the shorts are submitted, anyone who is registered to vote- can! Afterr the contest is over, the Vado HD pocket cams are donated to the school for future use. There will be a few different winners of the contests, and the prizes are unreal: cash prizes, tons of awesome Creative gear, even an internship with a famous Hollywood Filmmaker.
We were first introduced to Philip Noyce (Heat Wave, Clear and Present Danger, The Bone Collector) and Ken Arlidge (Full Metal Jacket, Army of Darkness, The Crow) followed up by debonair web legend, Darren Disaronno and jack-of-all-trades, Matthew Ward (Polar Express, Superman Returns, Beowulf).
You might be thinking, but…that’s already so many incredible people already, how can there possibly me more? As impossible as it may seem, there’s more.
John-Paul Beeghly is a multi-faceted film maven. He has worked in many capacities, including director of photography, on over 80 projects ranging from IMAX films to major studio features, commercial campaigns and documentaries. He has worked for names such as Tony Scott, Darius Wolski, Mike Hoover, Greg MacGillivray, Max Kleven, and David Fincher and on such projects as the Oscar nominated Amazon IMAX and Living Sea IMAX, and other high profile projects like Waterworld, Lethal Weapon 4, Hard Rain, Seven, The Game, and The Fan.
John-Paul is probably most recognized for the surf film, Step Into Liquid, for which he performed the triple role of Producer, 2nd Unit Director and Cinematographer. Step Into Liquid is one of the top ten most successful sports documentaries of all time and, to date, has grossed over $30 million.
Currently, John-Paul is CEO/President of Inertia Interactive Media, Inc., an interactive development and media production firm. You can connect with John-Paul today by heading over to the Inertia IM Facebook page.
Award-winning producer Jon “JK” Klaczkiewicz maintains a reputation for producing high-end films that go beyond the typical action sports movie formula. As supervising producer at Teton Gravity Research his efforts earned the coveted Ski Movie of the Year Award for the 2003 release of “High Life”.
In 2004 his independent feature-length documentary about legendary big mountain freeskier Kent Kreitler, “Reverence the Kent Kreitler Story“, broke into a new realm of action sports documentaries. “Reverence” earned a nomination for Ski Movie of the Year in Aspen and Best Biography at X-Dance during the Sundance Film Festival.
Following the production of six high definition ski story-based television programs for Rush HD, JK completed the first true high definition big mountain ski movie, “Waiting Game”. The film earned widespread acclaim and earned another Ski Movie of the Year nomination during the X-Games.
JK is a passionate skier and athlete with a Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado. He just finished production on a new documentary film on the most infamous underground ski fraternity in North America, the Jackson Hole Air Force that was dubbed “an inspirational story of passion and the ski bum culture” by Powder magazine. Get to know more about this incredible film and our illustrious expert panel judge, JK, on Facebook.
We still have a few more Expert Panel judges to introduce you to. If you just cant stand the wait, head over to VadoFilmContest.com to find out who else is behind this exciting event. Remember, you don’t have to be a film student to be involved in the contest. You can still view and vote!

Congratulations Bill Wyrostek for being our third Think Pink—Vado for the Cure Contest winner! Although participants do not have to share a story Bill wrote one for us,
“My loving wife is a breast cancer survivor of 16 years; I would like to win the Pink Vado for her so that she would be able to use it in her 2nd grade class. Then I can have my Vado HD back.”
-Bill

Back again, this time to introduce you to Darren DiSaronno and Matthew Ward, two of eight expert judges for the Vado Film Contest. In case you missed the last post, we touched on the pot of gold at the end of the splendorous rainbow. Pot of gold being the unbelievable prizes like $1,500 cash, an internship with a famous Hollywood filmmaker, speakers, headphones, and Vado HD video cams to name a few; Splendorous rainbow being the fact that you get to make a stellar short film and have it be watched by 8 film industry greats.
In addition to Phillip Noyce and Ken Arlidge, Darren DiSaronno is an expert judge. Darren is starring in a new online series, Red Harbor, shot entirely on the Vado HD. Be sure to watch the hysterical behind the scenes episodes. They are a favorite of mine and most everyone I know.
Darren is a self-professed Renaissance man when it comes to making flicks. No, he’s not into period pieces; he’s simply fluent in every aspect of the movie making process. Hailed as the “action film visionary of our time”, Darren got his training making motion pictures on the streets, exploding onto the scene with his directorial debut, Operation Eagle Tears, at the age of 19.
Other films include The Human Missile Crisis, Playa Del Spice, Confidant and Confidant 2: Overconfidant. His current project, Red Harbor, was shot exclusively on the Vado HD Pocket Camera. Darren enjoys good conversation without the head games, vintage Chianti and high diving.
Matthew Ward got his start working at the Academy Award wining visual effects house, Industrial Light & Magic, where he contributed work on such films as The Mummy, Star Wars Episode I, and Wild Wild West. Since then, Ward has worked on numerous visual effects and animation films including Titan A.E., Behind Enemy Lines, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, Doug Chiang’s Robota, The Polar Express, Catwoman, Superman Returns, War of the Worlds, Monster House, and Beowulf.
Ward is a jack-of-all-trades, much like a lot of you out there. He does everything from concept illustrations & designs, pre-visual animation & cinematography, editing, and character animation. As an independent director and filmmaker, his work has been featured in several international film festivals and he has been an Addy nominee for two of his commercials. He has also been a voice actor in several animated short films and the feature film, Beowulf.
With impressive judges like Noyce, Arlidge, DiSaronno and Ward on this contest, I can only imagine you are turning cartwheels right now. Tomorrow we will meet two more judges of the Vado Film Contest. Remember, you don’t have to be a film student to reap the benefits of this contest. Come December 5th, we will start the rating process of all the student’s videos. I am beside myself with anticipation- hopefully you feel the same.
Find out more information on the Vado HD cameras used in this contest.

Creative has put together a contest that makes me wish I was back in college. Sure, I didn’t study film, but had I known I could have the opportunity to win $1,500 as well as a hand full of Vado HD’s, a speaker system, 6-disc DVD player and a killer internship with a famous filmmaker I would have quickly enrolled in any film school I could find. The gist is this: If you are a student at one of the schools participating–the likes of NYU, UCLA, Emerson College, UNC, and the American Film Institute Conservatory to name a few–Creative will provide the Vado HD’s for you to make your short film. The shorts are made and posted to VadoFilmContest.com where they are then voted on by the community (ie, friends, family, the whole lot) as well as our panel of experts.
And this is what leads me to the bulk of our post for today: the Expert Panel. I want to spend a few minutes completely geeking out about who we are working with. Since there are 8 experts who will be watching the submitted videos, let’s not rush. Instead, let’s get to know two of these accomplished chaps today. I’ll introduce you to the rest in subsequent posts.
Phillip Noyce. Australian born and bred, Noyce was interested in film from early on. When he was 18 he tried his hand at filmaking in a 15-minute short, “Better to Reign in Hell” where he craftily acquired a budget by selling roles to his friends. Today, Noyce is not lacking of awards and recognition. In 1982, Heatwave (1982), co-written and directed by Noyce and starring Judy Davis, was chosen to screen at the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. Noyce’s other film credits include the political thrillers Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994) starring Harrison Ford, Dead Calm (1989) starring Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill and Billy Zane and The Bone Collector (1999) which starred Oscar© winner Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. Perhaps you, like myself, are waiting for 2010 to come around so you can see his next film, Salt, starring Angelina Jolie.
Ken Arlidge. Ken Arlidge is one of the most versatile commercial directors in the world today. Like Noyce, Ken got his start in Australia. over a quarter century ago where, as a young man, he showed a preternatural talent for miniatures and other visual effects, and rapidly became that country’s top visual effects specialist and cameraman. Before long, he applied his skills to aerial photography as well, shooting for Stanley Kubrick on “Full Metal Jacket,” and on “Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome.” This led to work as a 2nd Unit Director and DP on films such as “Army of Darkness” for Sam Rami, “Wag the Dog,” for Barry Levinson, “The Crow,” and “Babe,” where his unique ability to combine CG post effects with live action film found full flower.
Ken’s technical skill, his visual effects knowledge and his sure hand with actors and story made the jump to directing all but inevitable. His relationship with Aero Film – a company with a reputation for top-quality, complex campaigns for leading car brands and the armed forces – gives Ken the perfect platform to exercise all of his filmmaking muscle. And it’s shown in projects for a long list of top brands: from Porsche, Chevrolet and Nissan, to AT&T, Visa and Nike. Ken directed the launch spots for Mazda’s wildly successful “Zoom, Zoom” campaign. More recently, his Kaiser Permanente film captured the spirit of the Hawaiian islands in a way not seen before in advertising. He is currently on location in New Zealand.
Film makers like Noyce and Arlidge have been inspiration for so many to start making films of any kind. I can speak personally about the degree of inspiration I have taken from each of our Expert Judges. Now, consider for a second, the fact that your vado video could be seen by one of these two famed film fellas. If you aren’t in a film school, sadly not everyone can be, then tell your friends who are. If you lack film-student friends, that’s OK. You can still watch and vote on these videos since the voting isn’t left entirely to our famous friends.
OK, enough alliteration. I bid thee adieu!
-Tawnee

Congratulations Raul Figueroa for being our first Think Pink– Vado for the Cure contest winner! Although participants do not have to write a story Raul shared one with us,
“I’m Currently in two Fights one to help the victims of breast cancer by giving donations the other in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afhganistan by being a proud 82nd Airborne Soldier for United State of America! I wanted to be added to this drawing to show my support.”

Capture the Action: Vado HD at Transworld Motocross Awards October 7, 2009

Vado HD will be at Las Vegas this thursday to Capture the Action of the Transworld Motocross Awards.
Vado HD has a lot of appeal to us every-day folk: we take it to events, we film our family get-togethers, we film concerts, to name a few. Then there are those who race a motorcycle at maddening speeds through mud and up embankments propelling themselves into head-over-feet flips. Well, Vado HD has been great for those people as well. In fact, our friends over at Transworld use Vados for just about everything. Seems the small pocket camera, with it’s wide angle lens and high-quality video is just the thing these extreme sports riders have been looking for.
Transworld is holding it’s first annual Motocross Awards tomorrow, October 8th, at The Joint in Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas. Vado HD will be there to not only capture the event, but help those attending capture it as well. If you’re at the show, we’ll let you check out one of our 1st Generation Vado HD pocket cams so you can go experience what makes these handhelds so enticing. Afterwards, we’ll collect our footage and post videos for the rest of the world to see. If you can come, great! Tickets are available at the event. If you aren’t able to make it then check back in with us, we’ll keep you connected.
I will be tweeting from the red carpet, posting videos afterwards, and filling you in, right here, on the MyVado blog. Luckily though, I won’t be doing any Motocross stunts, although that might make for a great video. The last handle-bars I flipped over were as a kid, and that wasn’t all-too-graceful or intended.
Take a look at who the nominees are, and I will check in on you tomorrow. I’m off to catch a flight to Vegas!
